Rauco is more like a grumpy old man than he cares to admit but for his race he is genuinely young. Prideful and stubborn, Rauco is difficult to compromise with but capable of compromise. Eventually. He has grown to see the world through the almost permanent scowl on his face and in his many years of life has come to the sad realization that life is indeed unfair, however that does not mean that you can’t do anything about that. He is a firm believer in telling fate to shove off while he paves his own road. The road he has chosen to travel is one of many hardships but one of self improvement. He seeks to better himself through gaining a more in depth knowledge of his heritage and the many cultures of the world of Ansgar. Wherever he may go among the many countries however he has always felt like an outcast. Cast out by his own people the Dracul race and different from every other race Rauco is in a search of sorts, a search for a place to belong to.
Appearance: [Spoiler] Rauco was cast asunder from the ancestral home of his people the Dracul for his excessively human appearance. Unlike his race he is scaleless and without wings or overtly reptilian features. He resembles an elf with an average human body build. The more distinguishing of his features include his elongated fangs, shorter than that of Dracul but longer than that of normal humans or lizardmen. His sharp ears not quite pointed enough to be considered elven by any standard. The fact that he has ears instead of ear slits or holes. His claw-esque hands and feet are both powerful and deadly with finger/toe nails that are solid like reptilian claw and just as capable of ripping through flesh. His eyes are, however, reptilian in every sense of the word, equipped with double eyelids and blade like pupils. These eyes can see as a reptile can in the spectrum of heat but also as a human can in the visible light spectrum. These features aside, Rauco is built like a human and from the perspective of those who are ignorant of him he appears to be just that.
Rauco wears a mask of thin but solid material to hide his face from the elements of Mertuil as well as from people. Along with this mask he wears a hooded cloak and light leather armor. His skin is bronze after years in the open sun and along with his armor and cloak he wears his sword Darastix Ui strapped to his back. Being someone of Mertuil he appreciates jewelry and wears two golden hoop earrings on either ear and a silver pendant around his neck. The silver pendant is a symbol of the goddess of wind Furia that he keeps as a symbolic gesture to respect and worship her so long as he lives since he is a pure blood Dracul. The earrings were obtained from a bandit in the desert because they were pretty and have no other value to Rauco.

Born to a typical Draculian family Rauco has a healthy distaste of dragons. Like his kin he was born with the appearance which was common place among the continent of Lorccan. As he grew into a spectacular young warrior he gained an uncanny inquisitiveness towards aspects of combat that involved magic. His mentors and friends warned him that magic was not something to be taken lightly. Heeding their warnings, Rauco treaded carefully as he began to delve in magics. This caution tempered his eagerness allowing for careful inspections of magics and their uses. With such in depth research results were bound to follow. Unfortunately the continuous stream of positive results had a negative effect on Rauco. The more he succeeded the less he tempered eagerness with caution.
This lack of patience proved to be almost fatal. After many an hour of late night study Rauco happened upon a type of enhancement magic. According to his research the magics were used to “Bring one closer to Furia.” Excited and ever impatient to bring himself closer to his beloved goddess, Rauco began preparations to perform the spells at once. Only halfway through his research he began attempting the spells. At first he could feel what he thought was a spell working. Energy coursed through his body giving him strength he was unaccustomed to, and speed more than double what he could have achieved normally. After only minutes of affect the spell seemed to take it’s course and dry itself out. Eager to try yet another enhancement spell Rauco made several more attempts at other magics. These attempts were all in vain. After hours of frustration and spell casting to no avail he gave up upset. Outraged even. However being physically, mentally, and magically exhausted he conceded defeat and fell into a deep slumber. Rauco fell into a coma, and while he slept he changed. His family and friends watched in horror as Rauco changed into a creature they were unfamiliar with. His scales shed away like a common reptiles might. His wings receded until they were gone all together. His appearance changed so drastically that many a passerby would simply mistake him for a human. The only proof of his existence as a member of the Dracul race were his eyes and remnants of his claws and fangs. His scales had given way to flesh. His claws had become overly sharp fingernails. His fangs were reduced to excessively pointy canine teeth while the rest of his mouth filled out to fit the appearance of a human, but his eyes merely adjusted to fit the size of his new face.
When he awoke he was greeted by horror filled and awe-struck visages. Being as he had not seen himself in what he thought was a single night he assumed everything was normal until he decided to ask why his fellow Dracul were crowding his room. He was greeted with a harsh statement he still resents to this day. "We are no longer of the same brotherhood, for you are no longer our brethren." Astonished and misinformed he protested until he was shown reflection on open water. Obviously, he went into shock. Unable to abandon his previous guise as well as incapable of comprehending how his transformation came to be. After being given time to collect his belongings he was cast out of his former society. Exiled to wander the world as a being without a people or purpose he eventually found his way to Mertuil where he currently makes a living as an entrepreneur of sorts.
